As we have stated before in early posts from this Summer, the Blue River near Silverthorne,CO is some of the best fishing in the state. I actually have to re-up that statement and say it is hands down the best fishery in the state for big rainbows. This week I had the chance to fish some private water that really blew my mind…The smallest fish landed was 20 inches. We hooked up with several fish that could’ve been close to almost 30 inches….My Solitude 3 Reel  and Winston BIIX 6wt. were put to the test yesterday and handled these pigs very nicely. Lets just say that Spencer Higa had a stroke of genius when he invented his “S.O.S Baetis”. This fly put many massive bows on the end of my line yesterday as well as outperforming nearly every other fly in my box. The baetis hatch was getting fish to feed heavy on emergers and nymphs throughout the afternoon. We also landed fish on Red and Pink San Juan Worms, Gray and Black RS2’s, and Copper Johns. If you haven’t experienced this amazing fishery yet, get up there and cast to the fish of a life time!
