Waterton Canyon has had its ups and it downs in the past few years. Floods, fires, and man really made an impact on this outstanding metro fishery. Many people believe the canyon is not fishing well these days but I would say that I have to disagree.

Waterton has a wide range of diverse hatches throughout the year. Something that we are just now starting to see are Salmonflies! The fish are fairly new at hunting  these giant helicopter like insects but when they wanna eat one, they hit it HARD! Large hatches of PMDs and PEDs account for some excellent dry fly fishing throughout the course of the day. In the between periods, fish can be caught on terrestrials and small emergers/nymphs.

I would strongly recommend the canyon to beginners and expert anglers alike. So next time you need a quick trout fix, load up the bike and give the canyon a try!
