It’s that time of the year again…. The ice is melting, the grass is beginning to pop up again, and fish are out and feeding heavily. Waterton has been fishing very well these past few weeks and we only expect it to get better from here on out. Though the lower section is pretty much dead for the moment, the top two miles are on fire! Find fish holding in the deep pools and the pocket water in between. We have been having some spotty midge hatches and a few Baetis beginning to make an appearance these last couple days. I personally have done very well the last half mile of the canyon until the dam.

Flies:

#12 BH Mottled Tan Pat’s Rubber Legs

#16-18 Crystal Copper John

#18-22 Higa’s S.O.S.

#18-24 Grey or Black RS2

#20-22 Black Zebra Midge

Flow Report:

32.7 Cfs as of 19:15 3/22/13

Hatches:

Midges and a few Baetis

Tip of the week:

Stay low and wade as little as possible… these fish have been super spooky lately.

I landed my first decent rainbow from the canyon today which was a pleasant surprise! The hot fly has been that #22 Black Zebra fished deep! WatertonBow100_7649
