The Whitefish. Just the name alone strikes fear in the hearts of western troutbums. Your out trying our luck for some Salmonids and of course whitefish have to come and ruin your trout party. Nymphing the large rivers here in the Rockies will almost guarantee you a chance to tangle with one of these surprisingly fun to catch fish. I actually enjoy the thrill of fighting these fish and they don’t really get to me. I’m advising that you give these natives a chance and you might actually come to like these not-so-attractive fish. Who knows? Maybe you’ll even end up targeting them someday!

Here are a few pics from the Madison River last summer, where Whitefish abound!
